State, National Conferences Enhance Knowledge, Skills

NPW HAS A SPRING CONFERENCE AND A FALL CONFERENCE, held at various Nebraska locations that utilize experts from the area for speakers, workshops and panels. Each conference provides professional development opportunities designed to enhance members’ knowledge and skills while also promoting networking among members.

In addition, at the spring conference luncheon, NPW scholarship winners are recognized and Nebraska high school communications contest winners receive their awards. At the evening banquet, the newest Nebraska Women Journalists Hall of Fame members are inducted, and professional communications contest state awards and sweepstakes are presented.

Fall conference features announcement of the NPW Communicator of Achievement, an award that recognizes one member for outstanding achievement in the communications profession and for service to the organization and to her community.

Because state conferences are held in different locations, they often include opportunities to explore the area, generally through a planned tour or event.

NPW board meetings usually are held the evening before the conference and once in between conferences.

NFPW HAS ONE CONFERENCE EACH YEAR for multiple days. The location varies, according to which state affiliate is chosen to host it. Each conference offers a pre-tour and a post-tour to encourage members to become more acquainted with that location’s history, culture and food.

Each conference has a keynote speaker, several other large group speakers, a President’s Roundtable discussion and numerous workshops, panel discussions and breakout sessions from which to choose.

National communications contest winners are announced as is the new National Communicator of Achievement. Longtime members are also recognized, and a silent auction is held with proceeds going to the NFPW Education Fund.
