Colorado is Host for 2025 Conference

Registration is now open for the 2025 NFPW Conference, hosted by Colorado Press Women Sept. 11–13 at the Denver Marriott West hotel in Golden, Colorado.

Themed “The Next Frontier,” the conference will highlight Colorado’s Old West history as well as its innovative leadership in communications, science and technology.

Featuring educational programming, receptions and award ceremonies, networking opportunities and tours, the conference offers something for any communicator who wants to broaden their knowledge and increase their professional connections.

Past National Conferences

2024

St. Louis, Mo., hosted the “Gateway to Success” NFPW conference June 20-22, 2024. The keynote session, “History in the Headlines,” featured two presenters: Lynne Jackson, the great-great-granddaughter of Dred and Harriet Scott, and Dr. Jody Sowell, president of the Missouri Historical Society and a former assistant professor of journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism. Another popular session was “AI: Partner or Pestilence?” with viewpoints represented by John Stamm, founder and CEO of Hello Citizen, and by Mary Ann Wymore, partner at UB Greensfelder law firm and adjunct professor of media law at St. Louis University. The President’s Roundtable discussed “The Challenges of Local Journalism.” Numerous workshops were offered as well as a “St. Louis History” tour and a “St. Louis Culture” tour.

2023

The “NFPW in Cincinnati” conference was June 22-24, 2023. “Adventures in Accidental Entrepreneurship” was the interactive keynote session, presented by Jill Miller who told how to embrace change, take control of your destiny, develop a personal brand and market your services. She has a consulting firm and is an adjunct professor at Wichita State University. “The Underground Railroad” was the topic of a lunch presentation made by two speakers. Sherri Burr, author of 31 books and retired professor of law at the University of New Mexico, provided “A Family Researcher’s Perspective” while Linda Hass, author and local historian, spoke on “Michigan’s Crossroads to Freedom: The Underground Railroad in Jackson County, Michigan.” The President’s Roundtable discussed “ChatGPT: Useful Tool, the Demise of the Media, or Something in Between.”

2022

“Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Legendary” was the theme of the June 24-26, 2022, NFPW Conference in Fargo, ND, co-hosted by members in Moorhead, MN. Keynote speech, “Kindness Is Contagious in the Workplace,” was presented by Nicole Phillips of Aberdeen, SD, a former TV anchor and reporter in Fargo and in Wisconsin, who now has a Kindness Podcast and a Kindness Blog. Other presentations included “Leaving the Newsroom for the Newsletter” by Christopher Ingraham, former Washington Post reporter; “Treating Your Customers the Way Nonprofits Treat Their Donors” by Patrick Kirby, founder of Do Good Better Consulting; and “Building the Bold North” by Andrea Mokros, executive v.p. and chief public affairs officer at Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis. The convention post-tour, “Legendary North Dakota,” took participants west to Jamestown, Bismarck/Mandan and Medora.

2021

“Emerge, Evolve, Engage, Guided by Truth” NFPW virtual conference was held June 10-12, 2021, online due to the pandemic. The keynote speaker was Michelle Duster, author and public historian, who spoke on her work to preserve the legacy of her grand grandmother, Ida B. Wells, an investigative journalist, sociologist, educator and civil rights activist. A panel discussion was held on “What Do Women Owe Each Other? Sisterhood in the Digital Age.” It was facilitated by Kathleen Pate, who has degrees in sociology and public history with a certificate in women’s studies. She is education specialist at the Clinton Presidential Library. Other session topics included “Drone On!” regarding the increasingly affordable story-telling tool, “Building Your Brand (With Social Media),” “Getting Started in Podcasting” and “Memoir Writing.” The President’s Roundtable was on “Facts, Truth + Trust.”

2020

The NFPW conference was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
